History Of Our Church
Rev. Bill Morgan
Calvary Baptist Mission was started in the home of Bro. Bill Morgan and Joyce Morgan, at 79 Baker Estates, Pine Ridge Ky. The date was November 30th, 1997.We had Sunday school at 10:00 and morning services at 11:00.Sunday night services were at 6:00 pm. Wednesday night bible studies was at 7:00 pm. Our Sunday school teachers were : Jeff Perkins for the adult class, Regina Wesley taught the Teen class, Lisa Perkins taught the pre-teen class, and pre-school was taught by Joyce Morgan. Our first board meeting was January 7 1998. At the first meeting the board voted on the name for the church. Joyce Morgan suggested the name Calvary Baptist Mission. There was several names that were voted on. Calvary Baptist Mission won by four votes. There was eight members present at the first board meeting. We voted to start looking for a church building. We looked at the building on Stokley Loop Rd., it was in bad shape. Every place we looked at, we would always go back to Stokley Loop Rd. It seemed like the Lord wanted us there for some reason. We decided to draw up a contract on it. There was a trailer on the land above the building, the building was being used as a auction house at the time. Some years before it had been a store. We purchased the property for $22,500. The deal for the property was closed around January 16, 1998. We had purchased the property from Mr. and Mrs. Donald Shephard. The church members along with some friends started working on the building. Some of the repairs were : building the new pulpit area and altar, painting, installing carpet, hanging doors and putting in new windows Joyce Morgan, Lisa and Mike Cable had the plumbing put in. We used the offering money to purchase fold up chairs so that we would have chairs for church. We also bought two tables to have in the Sunday school classes. We had the children's classes in the trailer. The adult classes were held in the sanctuary. We had our first Wednesday night Bible study in the church Feb. 25, 1998. After Bible study we had Julia Caudill a surprise birthday cake for her birthday. Our first Sunday morning service was March 1, 1998. We also had our Sunday school classes that morning. Lisa Cable knew someone that knew of a church in Louisville, that had some church pews to sell. They were remodeling their church. They were in good condition. Bro. Bill Morgan and Mike Cable purchased the pews and brought them back. We bought the piano and Julia Caudill was the piano player. Lisa Perkins painted the stained glass picture in the windows. The church was growing and people were getting saved. We held our first revival in Sept. 1998. January 13, 1999, the doctor told Bro. Bill he had cancer. His last message was Mother's Day 1999. Mike Cable and Danny Hoskins crafted Bro. Bill a pulpit and presented it to him on Father's Day. Bro. Bill passed away on July 28, 1999. When Bro. Bill had to give up preaching, he chose a young man who had been preaching some, to help lead the church. This young man was Bro Jeff Perkins. Bro. Perkins lead the church until Sept. 1999. Bro. James Combs came to Pastor the church Sept. 1999. He was a very good Pastor. He did a lot of work for the church. The church sold the trailer for $2,500 and bought materials for the fellowship house to be built and half the roof and to make a larger parking lot. Bro. Greg Rogers came to preach in Oct. 2001 and stayed until Easter Sunday 2002. We had other ministers fill in. I phoned a minister that I knew and asked if he knew anyone that could help us. He gave me Bro. Warren Rogers name and phone number. I talked to him and asked if he could help and he said he would. He arrived April 14, 2002. The congregation wanted him to stay and become the Pastor. He told us July 28, 2002, that he would accept the position of Pastor. Thank the Lord for sending him to us. He is a great Pastor and a man of God. The church has done so well under his leadership. We have paid off the church and done a lot of work to it. Thank you Bro. Warren Rogers and Sister Carolyn for all the hard work you have done. We love you.... Joyce Morgan and the Morgan family. |
