The Gather'n
This afternoon,
"Pops" and I ventured up in eastern Kentucky to the Fraley
Mountain Music Gatherin' . . held annually in Carter
Caves State Resort Park in Olive Hill, KY. We had a good
time, although the drive was 1.5 hr each way.
Once
arriving, we found every age (both men, women, boys and girls) . . performing
informally in the street and near the lodge. The music was lively; the
fellowship friendly; and we both enjoyed time away from the 'grind stone' of plantation
building and farm'n on the Pompeii Ridge!
Anyway, it rained all morning . . so that gave us pause to take the afternoon
off~ (ohhhh . . . and I'm proud to say, "Pops" treated me to
dinner tonight)! I'll share a few snaps from our
enjoyable 'outing' . . !
. . . ole john . . . out on the Pompeii Ridge . . .
As you can see,
"Pops" was relaxed in his john deere
hat and lawn chair! This young fellow played a wash
board, complete with a couple of spoons and a cow bell . . and
bright harnes!
On
the front steps of the lodge, we found this 'young lad' that was burn'n a
set of fiddle strings with the best of 'em! He played a 'break-down' that
was a toe tapper, fer sure!
Soon after we got there,
this young lady came by, sat down with her fiddle and began to 'saw' a few tunes
for us. We found out she was 13 year old!
Before you knew it, here
comes the 'Parson' . . (a.k.a. Rev. Yogie) . . with his mandolin, and starts 'jam'n'
with the kids!
On our way over to the amphitheater to hear the groups
perform, we encountered this young fellow . . strum'n on his dulcimer at
the 'gather'n . . .
Soon night-fall . .
and the stage came alive with all ages and sizes! Notice the 'grandfather'
guitar this young gal is play'n . . !
